The New Lenox Zoning Board of Appeals stood firm on sign regulations last week, ruling that one business sign is out of compliance with the rules and turning down a request for an enlarged sign at a new shopping area.
Board members said the new owner of a dry-cleaning business on U.S. Highway 30 must follow current rules when changing the name on the sign.
Citing a longstanding effort to control signs along the highway, the board turned down a request for a 180-square-foot sign in the Hickory Creek Shopping Center under construction on U.S. Highway 30 west of Schoolhouse Road.
Planning and Development Administrator Carrie Hansen said the property is not uniquely situated, so a larger sign is unjustified.
