McDonald’s Corp. has canceled plans for a fast-food restaurant on Weber Road in Romeoville, village officials said this week.

Mayor Fred Dewald said McDonald’s officials wanted variances from the village’s sign and parking ordinances that were not granted.

The company wanted to move its parking lot closer to the road and also expected to build a Playland on the site, but village officials felt the property wasn’t big enough to accommodate McDonald’s plans.

The Weber Road area is a rapidly growing area, where many new businesses are locating. “The traffic was going to be a problem,” Dewald said.

Village officials hope to assist McDonald’s in finding a bigger site for the proposed new restaurant, he said.
