Uncommon clothes horses: Members of the Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club are thinking more about others’ clothing than their own. Partnering with Hinsdale Community Service to promote the latter’s clothing assistance program in seven DuPage communities, they’ve recently coaxed donations from paint, carpet, closet accessories and container retailers and transformed space in Hinsdale’s Village Hall into the Clothes Closet resale shop.

“My dream has always been to offer our clients an attractive place in which to shop by appointment for donated new and gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothes,” said Ruth Trousil, executive director of Hinsdale Community Service. “Members of the Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club have volunteered their time and talent to make that dream a reality.”

Most Clothes Closet clients are among DuPage’s working poor–people with minimum-wage jobs who must finance their own insurance and provide shelter and food for their families, according to Trousil.

“Providing them with a nice place to find suitable clothing gives them a boost,” she said.
