Chicago Library Board President Cindy Pritzker has resigned but will remain head of the multimillion-dollar foundation she created to support the library.

Pritzker was first appointed to the board by Mayor Harold Washington in 1984 and was to have served until 2000.

She was instrumental in raising private money for the Harold Washington Library Center and worked extensively with the design team.

Her resignation is effective Jan. 20.
