Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We were psyched to get our hands on the new Teen People ($2.99, hits newsstands Friday). Make that our grimy hands, cuz we’re real folks, and that’s what had us excited about this new ‘zine: It promised to shine the spotlight on real teens, not annoyingly perfect celebs. When we thumbed through the first issue, we found a magazine that was slick, sophisticated and star-studded (you’ll find the latest on Aaliyah, “Scream 2’s” Jerry O’Connell and of course Hanson and the Spice Girls). We found a ‘zine jammed with your basic fashion, makeup and zit-prevention stories. What we didn’t find was a magazine that really gets real. True, some real kids show up, like the kids in the “Can you spot the virgin?” story. (By the way… we could.) But we wanted more reality and less celebrity. That’s why we’re fans of the grownup People: It covers ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell. TP makes a point in its first issue of telling readers how they can get involved in the ‘zine. We hope lots of kids go for it… Teen People needs teen help!
