Elgin police who responded to a report of shots fired about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Larkin Avenue and McLean Boulevard confiscated two handguns and a small quantity of cocaine from four teenage occupants of two autos, authorities said.
Although investigators never determined whether shots were actually fired, police said officers stopped two autos described by witnesses and charged a 16-year-old male occupant of one of the autos with unlawful use of a weapon, cocaine possession, drug possession with intent to deliver and armed violence.
A second juvenile boy, age 13, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
Other occupants of the vehicles were identified by police as Rosana Chavez, 19, of 261 Center St. and Erika Jimenez, 18, of 611 Brook St., both of Elgin.
Chavez was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and failure to register the weapon, police said. They said Jimenez, the driver of one of the vehicles, was charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon and released.
Police did not disclose the quantity of cocaine that was confiscated other than to describe it as small.
