A former Gary police officer was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for the February 1994 shooting death of her husband.
Myrtle Ellis, 33, was convicted Nov. 6 of reckless homicide in the death of Robert Ellis, 31, a Gary firefighter, according to Diane Poulton of the Lake County, Ind., prosecutor’s office.
Robert Ellis had returned to the couple’s Gary home the morning of Feb. 11, 1994, when an argument ensued. The defense contended Robert Ellis threw a rag in his wife’s face and had started walking toward her when she shot him four times with her service revolver, Poulton said.
