The City Council last week agreed to rezone properties in its industrial parks in an effort to stimulate commercial development.

The rezoning from limited manufacturing to highway-oriented commercial zoning means parcels along the frontage road at 167th Street east of Interstate Highway 57 and at Harlem Avenue at 153rd Street can now be considered as potential sites for hotels and office complexes.

The 167th Street property, known as the Corporate Center of Oak Forest, already houses a branch of South Suburban College and several offices.

Phil Simon, economic development director, said the change will enable the city to bring one new business into town early in 1998.
