Warm feelings aren’t enough to ward off cold weather. So science teachers and students at Lincoln-Way High School have rounded up boxes of warm clothing again this year to donate to those in need.

The annual clothing drive was started by science teacher David Engleman six years ago. Since then, science teachers Kelly Ludwig, Ron Garrelts, Mindy Hacket and Tom Thomas and their students have come on board.

The combination of cold weather and the holiday spirit make the campaign for donated coats, jackets, scarves, mittens and other winter gear appropriate.

The volume of the donations has skyrocketed from last year’s 1,200 to 2,000 items of clothing in all sizes and styles.

Most of the donated items will go to area residents, he said. The Marley FISH, a volunteer group that aids the needy, will hand out clothing in Frankfort, Mokena, New Lenox and Frankfort Township. Other garments will be taken to homeless shelters in Joliet.
