A Colombian man already wanted by federal authorities on a drug-trafficking warrant was charged Tuesday with storing up to $40 million worth of cocaine in a North Chicago apartment.

Jaime Carrasquilla, 32, was charged with possession with intent to deliver, and jailed under a $20 million full cash bond, said Assistant State’s Atty. Steve Scheller.

Carrasquilla, whom police said gave them many aliases, was charged one day after police found 223 pounds of cocaine in his Forest Point Apartment, 29533 N. Waukegan Rd.

Scheller said police went to the apartment after receiving a call from Carrasquilla, who reportedly said his wife was being held hostage, and asked police for their help.

Police said that when they arrived at Carrasquilla’s apartment, he gave them permission to search the place and told them there were drugs inside.

On Tuesday, police said they had not found the man’s wife.
