After hitting triple figures Friday night, No. 8 Providence-St. Mel traveled to Milwaukee and found the going a lot tougher.

Rufus King, one of Milwaukee’s better teams, had little trouble with the Knights, rolling to an 82-63 victory.

Jimmy Foster led King’s scoring with 22 points. Derrick Cole added 13 and Terrance McGee 11.

Irving Richardson led Providence (6-2) with 20 points, and Patrick Cunningham added 12.

Peoria Shootout: Despite 13 points apiece by Pierre Greene and Bobby Simmons, fifth-ranked Simeon (1-3) fell to Peoria Central 52-44.

Aurora Christian 80, Walther Lutheran 63: Jason Collins scored 23 points and Jason Wright added 20 to lead Aurora Christian (4-4).

Buffalo Grove 70, Roosevelt 53: Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Jason Wiertel, Buffalo Grove (8-2) rode the hot shooting of Jeff Siok to the non-conference victory. Siok scored 24 points, sinking five of 11 three-pointers, to lead the Bison.

“Jason has a bad back, and it’s a no-brainer not to dress him,” said Buffalo Grove coach Doug Millstone. “We’re a little more experienced with Wiertel in there. But we’ve been lucky enough to have players step up when their numbers come up.”

Millstone said that Wiertel should be ready when the Bison begin their holiday tournament at Bloomington-Normal.
