Officials said the fire at 29855 N. Gilmer Rd. started in the basement at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday. They said the two residents were standing outside when they noticed smoke coming from their house and called 911.
Officials said it took 35 firefighters about 50 minutes to put out the blaze, which spread up a wall and caused heavy damage to a second-story bedroom. Firefighters also spent another four hours at the scene trying to salvage household items.
