The Village Board voted Wednesday night to approve a $3.2 million tax levy, an increase of 9.75 percent over last year’s levy.
If, as village officials expect, this year’s equalized assessed valuation totals $216 million, the increase in the village tax levy will not affect the taxes of the average homeowner, said Finance Director Mary Britton.
A vote on the proposal to increase the tax levy was scheduled for earlier this month but was postponed after no residents turned out for a public hearing to discuss the subject.
Village officials said they wanted to be sure residents were informed and had their questions answered before they made a decision.
The delay until Wednesday did not help, however. Once again, no residents turned out at the meeting to make public comments about the tax levy, and it was then adopted by the Village Board.
