There is no doubt Brett Leonard is the bread and butter of the Glenbrook South girls basketball team. The junior entered Friday night’s contest with Evanston averaging 18 points a game.
But the Titan attack features much more than the 5-foot-5-inch Leonard. Susie McCreery is a three-year starter, and Keagan Thalin was coach Howard Romanek’s first player off the bench last season. Those two played a key role in the fourth-ranked Titans’ 54-44 victory over Evanston in Glenview.
McCreery scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Thalin added 13 points to pace Glenbrook South (10-0, 2-0) to the Central Suburban League South Division victory.
“Evanston is very quick; they are a competitive team,” said Romanek. “This was a very hard-fought game.”
Leonard was still part of the action for Glenbrook South, adding 12 points and four steals. Jenny Brown led Evanston (6-3, 1-1) with 13 points.
