After opening the season with four straight road games, Westinghouse was eager to show off in front of the home crowd Tuesday. The third-ranked Warriors may have been too eager, struggling to overcome Morgan Park 49-45.

“We were not focused; we played for the crowd instead of playing good hard fundamental basketball,” said Westinghouse coach Frank Griseto.

In fact, the Warriors (6-0) needed a late 8-0 run to break a 38-38 tie and create some breathing room. Ben Curtis scored seven of his 14 points in the fourth to lead Westinghouse. Terrance Williams added 10.

Derrick Winston and Imo Akhibi each had 12 to lead Morgan Park (2-4).

Fenwick 81, Brother Rice 71: Corey Maggette had 35 points as No. 2 Fenwick (6-0, 2-0) had all it could handle with Brother Rice. Fenwick went on a 20-11 spurt in the second quarter to take a 37-30 halftime lead and held on. Pat Harvey led Brother Rice with 20 points.

Gordon Tech 80, St. Laurence 59: Hodges Smith had 16 points to lead No. 8 Gordon Tech (5-1, 2-0) in the Catholic League.

Libertyville 60, Zion-Benton 56: Jim Oboikowitch had 18 points and Ryan Schreen 13 as host Libertyville stopped the ninth-ranked Zee-Bees (6-1, 1-1 North Suburban). Zion led 15-12 after a quarter and 29-23 at the half before Libertyville (3-3, 1-1) chipped away. The Wildcats opened the fourth with a 13-6 run and took their first lead, 47-45, with 4 minutes 32 seconds left on two Schreen free throws.

“We knew that we were in the game at halftime,” Schreen said. “We said, `Just don’t blow it and stay with them and we can do it.’ “

Brian Hamlett, who finished with 13 points, hit a three-pointer to put Libertyville up 53-52 with just under 2 minutes left.

Rich Central 73, Thornridge 65: Rich Central (3-3) overcame a 12-point first-quarter deficit to knock off No. 12 Thornridge. B.J. Davis led the Olympians with 18 points and Darren Randall added 16. Marvin Johnson led Thornridge (4-2) with 19.

Joliet 92, Homewood-Flosmoor 65: Richard Terry had 27 points to lead No. 19 Joliet (6-0).

Antioch 68, Stevenson 63 (OT): Chris Groth scored seven of his game-high 25 points in overtime to lead Antioch in the North Suburban.

Bolingbrook 49, Crete-Monee 44: David Salopek had 12 points and Marlon Davis added 11 to lead Bolingbrook (2-3).

Coal City 58, Wilmington 44: John Gockman and Matt Hines each scored 18 for Coal City (6-0, 2-0 Interstate Eight).

Lemont 58, Morris 51: Matt Frazier had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Lemont (3-2).

Lisle 46, Sandwich 40: Mike Orsar had 16 points to lead Lisle (4-1, 1-1) in the Interstate Eight.

Loyola 51, St. Rita 28: Bill San Hamel’s 13 points and Matt Cherry’s 12 sparked Loyola (3-3, 1-1) in the Catholic League.

Naperville North 72, Prosser 61: Chad Plaotke scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half to lead five double-figure scorers for Naperville (4-1). Marque Perry led all scorers with 27 for Prosser (1-4).

Niles North 66, Maine East 58: Mike Alvarez had 18 points and eight rebounds as Niles North (3-2) hung on despite being outscored 32-12 in the fourth quarter.

North Shore Country Day 66, Morgan Park Academy: 60: Rashad White had 17 points and Steve McNelly 15 for North Shore (3-3, 2-0 Independent School League).

Oswego 77, Yorkville 63: Chris Silagi had 19 and Kent Shaw and Dustin Stroops 16 each for Oswego (4-1).

Riverside-Brookfield 67, Plainfield 62: Randy Ramsey scored 36 points, including four three-pointers and 12 of 13 from the free-throw line, to lead R-B (6-0). Eric Bava added 21 points.

Rolling Meadows 79, Schaumburg 73: Rob Garnes powered Rolling Meadows (4-4, 1-0) with 33 points and 11 rebounds in the Mid-Suburban South opener. Mike Miller added 15 and Glenn Paddock 14 for the Mustangs. Jason Edwards led Schaumburg (4-2, 0-1) with 18 points.

Round Lake 64, Grant 55: Jim Slaby had 30 points and six assists for Round Lake (1-4).

Steinmetz 56, Collins 49: Steinmetz (6-0) overcame 26 turnovers and Curtis Harris scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the second half to pace the Streaks. “Turnovers killed us,” said Steinmetz coach Lynn Mister. “We didn`t play defense with intensity, although it bailed us out at the end.”

Thornton 60, Kankakee 38: Jonathan Woods had 16 points to lead Thornton (4-2).

Tinley Park 64, Oak Lawn 55: Ronnell McCarter scored 18 points and Walt Holmes added 14 as Tinley Park (5-5) upended Oak Lawn. Tinley Park went on a 19-5 run in the final 5 minutes to pull out the victory.

University High 101, Lake Forest Academy 46: Karega Bennett’s 17 points led six players in double figures for U-High (4-3, 1-0 Independent School League).

Warren 53, Mundelein 32: Mike Brandow had 19 points to lead Warren (4-3, 2-0) in the North Suburban.

Washington 53, T.F. North 50: Bernard Stallworth’s 14 points led Washington (5-1).

Wells 55, Amundsen 53: Noel Marrero had 13 points to lead Wells (1-1). Amundsen’s Sergio Menendez led all scorers with 19 points.
