A homeless man has been convicted of attempted murder and armed robbery for stabbing a Waukegan video store manager in a dispute over a paycheck last spring.
A jury convicted Oswaldo Rodriguez, 22, a citizen of Mexico, after an hour and 20 minutes of deliberations Wednesday, said Lake County Assistant State’s Atty. Mark Curran, who prosecuted the case with Patricia Fix.
According to Curran, Rodriguez was accused in the May 1 stabbing and armed robbery at Video Update, 1537 N. Lewis Ave.
Curran said Rodriguez had been fired from the store when he went to talk to the manager about his last paycheck. He said Rodriguez ended up stabbing the manager several times, then held up another employee at knifepoint and stole $60 from the cash register before taking off.
