Coach Mark Frailey says his Palatine team is still “getting a feel for what (it) can and can’t do.” After her performance Tuesday night, junior Karen Hagberg may be the exception to that thought.

Hagberg, a 6-foot-4-inch center who helped lead Palatine to a third-place finish in the Class AA state volleyball finals last month, scored 15 of her game-high 22 points during a 26-0 run that gave Palatine (3-3) control in its 53-34 victory over host Rolling Meadows (4-1).

“If we can get Karen the ball in a good spot, she is very tough to beat,” Frailey said of Hagberg, who added 18 rebounds and four blocks. “She played a complete game and really dominated.”

Rolling Meadows was in charge early, jumping to a 10-7 lead early in the first quarter and 19-12 with 4 minutes 51 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Hagberg and teammate Gina Ferrara, who scored eight of her 14 points during the rally, then sparked the decisive run.
