Perhaps the Waubonsie Valley/West Aurora tournament should be called the West Aurora/Waubonsie Valley tournament instead.

West Aurora’s Blackhawks made a case Friday for top billing by handing cohost Waubonsie Valley (3-1) its first loss of the season, 61-55, in Aurora.

West Aurora (3-1) outscored the 10th-ranked Warriors 36-26 in the second half.

“Our defensive effort disrupted their offense and caused them to do some things they didn’t want to do,” West Aurora coach Mark Proctor said.

Leading the defense–and the offense–for West Aurora was Jackie Shook, who along with her 20 points and 18 rebounds blocked 10 shots.

Amanda Wolf added 13 points for West Aurora; Ashley Luke led Waubonsie with 25.

In other action, top-ranked Loyola (5-0) knocked off Willowbrook 49-38 as Olga Gvozdenovic scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Erica Yahnke led Willowbrook (2-2) with 14 points.

Providence (2-2) bested Naperville North 33-30 behind Lauren Cramer’s 18 points, and Joliet used a 23-14 fourth-quarter advantage to escape with a 66-63 victory over Montini. Mary McNair (19 points), Lori Shelby (18, five assists) and Tiffany Cornelius (13 points, 12 rebounds) paced Joliet.

Conant/Wheeling: Fenton (4-1) used a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter to help seal a 49-45 victory over Wheeling. Pam O’Connor scored 14 to lead the Bisons. . . . Led by 16 from Jill Bergmann and 15 from Kristy Steffans, Conant (6-0) routed Maine East 74-30.

Deerfield: No. 3 Fenwick (5-0) downed Lake Forest 50-28 behind Eloise Kucia’s 16 points and 10 rebounds. . . . Warren (4-0) outlasted Resurrection 63-61 in three overtimes as Nicki Thompson led the way with 20 points. Libby Colon scored 19 for Resurrection.

Geneva: Morgan Bahe had 24 points as Hampshire rolled to a 87-46 victory over Westmont. . . . Lanae Keller’s 15 points led Prairie Ridge (3-2) over Rosary 68-33.

Glenbard East: Molly Carroll scored 13 to lead St. Francis (5-1) to a 50-47 victory over Glenbard North. . . . Nazareth (4-0), which got 17 points from Joanna Bukovsky and 11 from Danielle Moles, topped Addison Trail 67-37.

Hinsdale South: No. 20 Hinsdale Central (3-0), led by 11 points by Ashley Homeyer, escaped with a 31-30 victory over Oswego (1-1). . . . Hinsdale South (3-0) downed Rich East 70-61 as Nicole Brandon had 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Lincoln-Way: Katy Kukman had 20 points as Morris crushed Tinley Park 80-24. . . . The host Knights (3-1) got 15 points from Angie Churchill in rolling past Thornridge 60-37.

Lyons Township: Tess Cochan scored 23 and Kelly Baker added 15 as Downers Grove South (2-2) used a 12-1 fourth-quarter run to hold off Prospect 49-43. . . . Katie Meyers scored 11 of her game-high 23 in the first quarter as No. 19 Lyons Township (3-0) rolled over West Chicago 55-26.

Madonna: Latisha White scored 16 and grabbed 16 rebounds as Taft (5-1) prevailed over Madonna 39-37 in overtime. Judy Moran’s 18 points led Madonna.

Maine West: No. 5 Maine West (5-0) got 17 points from Dawn Vana and rolled to a 57-39 second-round victory over York (0-2). . . . St. Ignatius cruised to a 37-14 halftime lead and never let up on Whitney Young, handing the Dolphins a 62-36 defeat. Michelle Shaughnessy paced the Wolves (2-1) with 22 points. . . . Mundelein: Grayslake (3-2) made 20 of 21 free throws, including 14 straight in the fourth quarter, and put away Carmel 43-26. Jenny Wessel led Grayslake with 18 points and 12 rebounds. . . . Naperville Central/East Aurora: Cohost East Aurora defeated Elgin 60-50 as Teresa Reynolds scored 18 points and Melissa Matthews added 17. . . . Simona Stafford’s 17 points led all scorers as Proviso West downed Downers Grove North 53-38. . . . Benet topped Glenbard West 36-28 behind a balanced scoring attack led by Mary Ellen Schaeffer’s 10 points. . . . Schaumburg: No. 4 Glenbrook South (5-0) won the title with a 75-40 victory over Wheaton North (0-5). Three Titans scored in double figures, led by Brett Leonard’s 17. . . . No. 9 Lake Zurich (6-1) downed host Schaumburg (3-2) 54-45 for second place as junior guard Alicia Ratay (24 points) scored 10 third-quarter points to blow open a close game. Loyola tournament: Top-ranked New Trier Green got a goal and an assist from Jeff Parker and defeated Marist 3-1. . . . No. 2 Mt.
