St. Joseph coach Gene Pingatore found one bright spot in his fifth-ranked Chargers’ 60-47 loss to No. 8 Westinghouse Wednesday night in the Lyons Township tournament.

“I can’t find any positives to say other than our new uniforms looked good,” Pingatore said.

Westinghouse coach Frank Griseto, on the other hand, witnessed an impressive performance by his Warriors.

Westinghouse broke open a tight game with a 14-2 run in the third quarter to take a 40-29 lead. St. Joseph didn’t get closer than nine points the rest of the game.

Ben Curtis came off the bench to lead Westinghouse with 13 points. Andre Wiggins added 11 points to a balanced attack.

“He’s the kind of guy who gives us instant offense off the bench,” Griseto said of Curtis, a senior point guard who scored 11 of the Warriors’ 16 points in the second quarter. “He’s one of the most upbeat players I have ever coached.”

Young 86, Crane 52: Quentin Richardson had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Cordell Henry added 19 points as No. 1 Young recorded the non-conference victory.

St. Patrick tournament: Corey Maggette scored 30 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as No. 3 Fenwick held off Prosser 73-62 in the opener for both teams. Fenwick outscored Prosser 26-18 in the fourth quarter.

Buffalo Grove tournament: Lucas Johnson had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead No. 9 Maine West (3-0) to a 56-46 victory over Leyden (0-2).

Glenbard West tournament: Steve Hunter had 30 points to lead No. 10 Proviso East to a 67-52 victory over Wheaton Academy.

Larkin tournament: No. 14 Elgin (2-0) rolled to a 75-41 victory over Gulf High School of Newport Richey, Fla. Sean Harrington led the Maroons with 18 points and 10 assists. Brent Gooden added 14.

Niles West tournament: Todd Markman had 18 points to lead New Trier (3-0) to a 48-46 victory over Evanston in the title game. Markman hit a pair of free throws to give the Trevians a three-point cushion, 47-44, with just over a minute left. Karlton Mims’ 15 points paced Evanston (2-1). . . . Kevin Clancy had 21 points, including five three-pointers, as Notre Dame (2-1) handed No. 16 Proviso West its second straight loss, 53-50 in overtime. Jermaine Brown led Proviso (1-2) with 16 points.

Hoffman Estates tournament: Phil Fiore scored to send the game into overtime and then scored five of his 12 points in the extra session to lead Glenbard North (2-0) to a 66-61 victory over Crystal Lake Central (0-2). Mark Johnson led Glenbard with 15 points.

Marian Catholic tournament: Sandburg broke open a tight game in the second quarter and went on to roll past Bishop McNamara 55-26. Sandburg (2-1) led 9-7 after the first quarter and then outscored McNamara 16-2 in the second to pull away. . . . Led by tournament most valuable player Gibran Carter, Rich South (3-0) captured the title with its 62-46 victory over Marian Catholic.

Steinmetz tournament: Montsho Wilson scored 19 points and dished out 11 assists as the host school went unbeaten in the round-robin tournament with a 61-54 victory over Englewood. Terrence Taylor had 31 points as Harlan (1-2) claimed third place with a 64-58 victory over Southside Prep (0-3).

Taft tournament: Tim Marshall scored 16 points and Tavares Harrington added 15 as Taft (3-0) claimed its own tournament with a 50-41 victory over Phillips (1-2). . . . David Kennedy had 19 points to lead Roosevelt (2-1) to a 50-41 victory over Kelvyn Park (0-3) for third place.

Thornton Fractional North tournament: T.F. North (2-0) topped Washington 58-50 as Marcus Davis scored 13. Montele Hogan had 13 for Washington (1-1).

York tournament: Hersey (1-1) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in its 69-45 victory over Senn (0-3). Joe Pace led Hersey with 21 points. Chris Patton had game-high honors with 30 points for Senn.
