Village officials want to know what it would cost to acquire land for a village green south of U.S. Highway 30.

Trustees recently agreed to hire a Joliet appraisal firm to evaluate two parcels of the proposed commons area, including 2.3 acres already owned by the village.

The second tract of 5.02 acres will be subject to two appraisals as a development site and as open space.

Edward J. Batis & Associates Inc. will conduct the appraisals for $3,800.

Planners envision the commons area, which lies west of Vine Street and north of the Village Hall, as a town center with park land, shops, public buildings and, perhaps, housing.

Another planned project involves remodeling the Village Hall at 701 W. Haven Ave.

The board awarded a $9,750 contract for architectural and engineering work on the Village Hall to Richards/Johnson & Associates, Inc., firm which has offices in Chicago and New Lenox.

Plans include relocating the Police Department to the building’s lower level and reroofing the building as well as putting new floor coverings in the entry, hallway and Council Chamber.
