Resembling a castle, the Ponds at Sunset Ridge in Northbrook will feature a soaring turret at one side of the new four-story condominium.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for next month at the 12-residence gated development in the north suburb.
“We designed it to fit in with the Old World architecture of the Techny area,” said Brian Milbury, project architect for Morgante-Wilson Architects Ltd., Chicago. Milbury was referring to the adjacent acreage, dominated by a huge Roman Catholic church, that has been owned by the Roman Catholic Society of the Divine Word since 1899.
The 40,000-square-foot, stone-and-brick condo will be built on a two-acre site–once used for storage of an antique car collection–on the east side of Waukegan Road, a quarter-mile north of Willow Road.
Completion is expected in the fall of 1998, according to Bill Platt, partner in VPD Development, developer of the Ponds at Sunset Ridge.

Platt said the name reflects the ponds that can be viewed to the south on the Kraft property and the golf course of Sunset Ridge Country Club to the east. The project is targeting empty-nester buyers.
The two- and three-bedroom condos will range from 2,250 to 2,400 square feet. Preconstruction pricing is from $479,000 to $509,000.
The ground floor of the elevator building will be devoted to parking. Each residence will have a private sundeck, marble entry, oak floors, two-way fireplace, and master suites with a walk-in closet and a whirlpool tub.
