A 30-year-old Rockford man was charged with disorderly conduct, reckless driving and DUI after he allegedly drove up to a Lake Forest school and entered two classrooms while school was in session.

Police and school officials said Dean Kolb slipped into Lake Forest Intermediate School through a side door Wednesday while parents picked up and dropped off preschoolers between the morning and afternoon sessions.

“He followed a mom in through the door,” Lake Forest School District 67 spokeswoman Anne Whipple said. “He then went up a back staircase to the second floor and entered two classrooms and spoke with teachers briefly.”

One teacher escorted Kolb to the office, and he was detained until police arrived and arrested him, Whipple said.

She said she didn’t know what Kolb said to the teachers or why he entered the school.

Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Michael Hosking said Kolb was “under the influence of something” when he drove up to the school at 300 S. Waukegan Rd. about 12:30 p.m. and entered the building.

Kolb was not violent, was not carrying a weapon and had no apparent connection to the school, Hosking said.

Kolb was being held in Lake County Jail on $10,000 bond and was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, Hosking said.

The Lake Forest Intermediate School houses about 400 pupils in Grades 3 through 5. The preschool is an independent operation that leases space in the building, Whipple said.
