“People who think we are just an Ashley Luke show are going to pay for it,” the Waubonsie Valley coach said Tuesday after her 11th-ranked Warriors downed visiting Lincoln-Way 83-73. “We have some kids who can step up.”
Indeed. Leslie Davenport scored 16 of her 28 points in the first half, while Luke, who rewrote the school’s record books last year, managed just four. Davenport’s first-half performance helped Waubonsie take a 39-37 lead at the half.
Luke found her rhythm in the second half, scoring 11, and Waubonsie outscored Lincoln-Way 25-9 in the third quarter and led by as many as 21.
Carrie Klimson (21 points) and Nicci Piech (20) led Lincoln-Way (0-1).
Loyola 74, Josephinum 24: Jeanette Paukert scored 15 points, Olga Gvozdenovic and Laura Sobieszczyk each had 12 and Katie Murphy 10 for the top-ranked Ramblers (1-0).
Wheaton-Warrenville South tournament: Charliss Ridley’s 21 points and Kristen Miller’s 20 helped No. 7 Wheaton-Warrenville South handle Trinity 74-50. . . . Megan Murray totaled 17 points and 14 rebounds for Oak Park in its 50-47 victory over Thornton.
Lake Zurich 62, Prairie Ridge 26: Alicia Ratay had 17 points and three blocked shots and Anne Tierney added 15 points and five rebounds for No. 10 Lake Zurich (2-0, 1-0) in the Fox Valley.
Waukegan 65, Highland Park 37: No. 18 Waukegan (1-1) rebounded from Monday’s loss to Highland Park behind Kenja White’s 18 points and LaQuitla Evans’ 14.
Joliet 80, Thornridge 53: No. 19 Joliet rolled past Thornridge in the season opener for both teams.
Austin tournament: Camille Calhoun scored 20 points and Dana Frazier had 15 to lead Sullivan (2-0) in its 61-34 rout of Near North (0-1). . . . Rachel Porter had 21 points and Stacey Willis added 10 as Curie had little trouble with Kelly 62-18.
