Two homeless men have been charged in a string of burglaries in offices in downtown Waukegan, police said.
They said Aaron Jackson, 36, was charged with two counts of burglary and is suspected in six other thefts. Jackson was ordered held in Lake County Jail on $50,000 bond Thursday.
A burglary warrant was issued for Jackson’s alleged accomplice, Cornelius Jackson, 46, but he had not been arrested as of late Thursday, said Waukegan Police Capt. Donald Johnson.
Police said they believe that the suspects may be cousins and that they used the profits to purchase drugs. Their last known address was a homeless shelter at 214 S. Genesee St., Johnson said.
Police say they believe that Jackson and an accomplice committed eight or nine burglaries in law offices and other downtown locations, stealing laptop computers, fax machines and assorted gear.
Police also said they believe the two suspects fenced the stolen goods at a used car lot near the intersection of Belvidere and Genesee Streets.
The manager of the lot, Fares Shalash, was charged with theft after undercover officers allegedly sold him some equipment, police said. Much of the stolen goods were recovered from the lot, Johnson said.
