Despite what you may have heard, the Dumpling Zone does not end at the city limits. In fact with a growing ethnic population in the suburbs, the Zone is getting bigger all the time. One suburban dumpling spot that has been putting a healthier twist on the traditional pot sticker is the mall-friendly Stir Crazy. Now nestled in three suburban malls (Northbrook Court, Oakbrook Mall and Woodfield Mall) this pan-Asian eatery eschews the usual ground pork pot sticker filling for ground chicken breast and vegetables laced with an Asian 10-spice mixture (which includes ginseng). You’ll find this filling in their fried crispy chicken dumplings, pan-seared chicken pot stickers and steamed chicken dumplings, which we recently sampled with their zingy wasabi vinaigrette, but which also comes with a ginger scallion soy sauce. And for the time being, you can’t get them in the city.
