A proposal to annex more than 300 acres of once-disputed territory northwest of the village into New Lenox has gained Plan Commission backing.

A boundary agreement signed by the Village of New Lenox and the City of Joliet earlier this year settled a long-term territorial dispute and designated the 36 parcels east of Gougar Road and north of U.S. Highway 6 for the village.

Plan commissioners recommended the Village Board approve the owners’ annexation request, but the Village Board’s decision will hinge on annexation agreements to be worked out with individual property owners, according to Carrie Hansen, Planning and Development administrator.

In other recent action, commissioners meeting as the Zoning Board of Appeals declined to reverse a ruling classifying Domino’s Pizza as a carry-out restaurant.

If Domino’s is required to provide the 27 parking places specified in the village ordinance, parking will be reduced for other businesses expected to move to the new shopping area, said Robert W. Berliner, representing the management of Nelson Plaza, where the pizza business recently opened.
