Four Carpentersville youths who allegedly were found with two Molotov cocktails in their car were being held in McHenry County Jail on Tuesday night, Barrington Hills police said.
The men told police that “they were looking for a Dumpster or something to start on fire,” said Police Chief Edgar Fair.
The four have been charged with a felony weapons violation for carrying the gasoline-filled bottles.
Police said they were alerted by a call from a member of the Barrington Hills Neighborhood Watch about a suspicious vehicle on Chapel Road south of Algonquin River Road at 11:05 p.m. Monday night.
Police said they stopped the vehicle, noticed a strong odor of gasoline coming from the vehicle’s interior and discovered the Molotov cocktails.
Arrested were John A. Baran, 17, of 148 Birch St.; Justin M. Bollig, 19, of 1424 Tomahawk Drive; Anton P. Gaydos, 18, of 52 Lakeshore Drive, and Larry Thornsberry, 19, of 2117 Teepee. They are scheduled to appear Wednesday for a bond hearing in McHenry County Court.
