A deputy chief of the Wilmette Fire Department has been charged with domestic battery for allegedly threatening his wife with a shotgun.

Lake County Assistant State’s Atty. Steve Scheller said James W. Dominik, 33, of Waukegan, and his 42-year-old wife were arguing Monday when Dominik allegedly threatened to shoot her and her dog. He allegedly pushed his wife to the ground before leaving their home.

Scheller said Dominik returned to the home Tuesday and began threatening his wife again. She contacted police, who arrested Dominik about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Scheller said police found close to 200 guns in the home. Dominik was not charged with any gun violations.

Dominik was released Wednesday after posting $500 bail and was ordered not to have any contact with his wife, Scheller said.

Wilmette Village Manager Heidi Voorhees said Dominik remained on active duty.
