Bridgeview police have charged four teenagers with arson in connection with four fires in the last two weeks that caused more than $1 million in damages.
The most recent fire was started Sunday, and police were led to the suspected youths after “they bragged about it,” Bridgeview Police Sgt. Steve Hoffman said Wednesday.
Two 15-year-old boys each were charged with three counts of arson and one count of attempted arson Tuesday, according to the state’s attorney’s office. The other boys, ages 15 and 16, each were charged with one count of arson and one count of attempted arson.
In Sunday’s extra-alarm fire at Mead Containerboard, 7601 S. 78th Ave., where two earlier fires also occurred, three firefighters suffered minor injuries.
The fourth fire was set Oct. 21 at a vacant building at 79th Street and Harlem Avenue, authorities said.
