The real ER: After 500 hours of grueling training, David Greenberg and Michael Campnell came out on top in emergency medical training, receiving gold and silver Stethoscope Awards in recent ceremonies marking graduation from Ingalls Hospital’s South Cook County EMS System.

Greenberg of Flossmoor, a paid-on-call firefighter with the Hazel Crest Fire Department, ranked first in the class of 22 candidates, followed closely by Campnell, a firefighter/paramedic with the Oak Forest Fire Department. Greenberg has started medical school at the University of Chicago, while Campnell officially joins the ranks at Oak Forest after passing the state paramedic exam Sept. 12. (He was a military firefighter before he joined Oak Forest.)

Ingalls’ paramedic training included eight hours of classroom training and six to eight hours of clinical training a week for nine months.
