In a letter to fellow board members, Kotecki (R-Glen Ellyn) contends the transfer station is not necessary to meet DuPage’s waste-disposal needs.
BFI wants to build its proposed DuKane transfer station on a 6.3-acre site near North Avenue and Powis Road in unincorporated DuPage. The facility is intended to serve western DuPage, as well as parts of Kane and northwest Cook Counties.
County Board members are expected to vote Tuesday on BFI’s request. Board Chairman Gayle Franzen has recommended that the request be approved.
Kotecki contends the transfer station is not needed until after the Settler’s Hill landfill near Geneva in Kane County closes in the year 2007.
