Trustees have authorized the village’s third special census in this decade.

An up-to-date census that reflects the village’s growth rate could boost New Lenox’s share of revenues from the state by $180,000 a year, according to planning and development administrator Carrie Hansen.

Per capita revenues bring in about $92 per person.

“You want to get the most recent data (to calculate those revenues),” Hansen said.

The census has to be completed by June 1998.

The village population in a 1993 special census was 10,563, she said. In 1995 it was 12,692, and the town is still growing.
