Phil Simon has been hired as the city’s new community development coordinator on a one-year, $49,900 consultant’s contract.

Simon, who has worked on Oak Forest’s new comprehensive plan and is updating its zoning ordinances, will now be responsible for drawing new businesses into the community, as well as assisting public agencies with grant applications.

Aldermen Belinda Olszewski and Jack Castelloni voted against Simon, saying he lacked experience in community and economic development.

Simon lives in Arlington Heights.
