Florence Kranz, 63, was killed when a car driven by her husband ran off the road and slammed into a tree, Libertyville police said.
The accident took place on Milwaukee Avenue near Lake Street about 5:15 a.m. when Joseph Kranz apparently fell asleep at the wheel, police said. The couple were northbound on Milwaukee Avenue in a 1992 Buick Century.
Police said Florence Kranz was not wearing a seat belt, while her husband was.
Florence Kranz was pronounced dead at Condell Medical Center at 5:53 a.m., said a hospital spokeswoman. Joseph Kranz, 65, was treated at Condell and released.
