The Mokena Village Board has approved an amendment to its agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding Wolf Road.

The amendment, approved last week, concerns an interconnect between the still-unactivated traffic signal at Wolf Road and Front Street and the Metra grade-level railroad crossing to the south. The interconnect, which is a system that coordinates the traffic signal with the rail-crossing lights, will be installed at no cost to the village, which will then maintain it.

The traffic signal has been on the corner but not in use for more than a year, while transportation officials work out the best way to avoid accidents.

Village Engineer Paul Pearson said no date has been set for the installation of the interconnect and the activation of the traffic signal.
