Attic gems: Some of the people passing The Lake Forest Shop in Market Square did a double take when they saw clothes from the early ’30s in the tony dress store’s window the last couple of weeks. Others thought the items were regular merchandise. To celebrate the store’s 75 years in business, third-generation owner Ellen Stirling displayed dresses that Lake Forest customer Florence “Sissy” Wheeler had dug out of her attic. The dresses had been bought at the shop by Wheeler’s mother and mother-in-law more than 60 years ago.
But the clothes could have been sold again, according to store fashion consultant Liz Stanton. “A young girl stopped in. She wanted the dress in the center,” Stanton said. That just proves that if you wait long enough, any style is bound to come back.
