Lake Forest pulled off both Friday night in Lincolnshire, handing No. 6 Stevenson (7-1, 5-1 North Suburban) its first loss and snapping the Patriots’ 32-game win streak.
“We’ve had so much bad luck all year,” Lake Forest coach Tom Myers said. “To just be able to take it to them and control the game was tremendous.”
The Scouts (4-4, 3-3) used four running backs to run Stevenson into the ground in the second half, rushing for 222 yards, 315 for the game.
John Collins (12 carries) led the way with 71 yards and a touchdown followed by Will Robinson (six carries, 57 yards) and QB Phil Irvine (six carries, 47 yards).
With 8 minutes 58 seconds left in the fourth quarter, John Magda (14 carries, 54 yards) capped a 16-play, 86-yard drive with a 2-yard run to make the score 26-12.
After Stevenson pulled to within 26-19 on a 30-yard run by Joe Marth (16 carries, 131 yards, 2 TDs), the Scouts ran 12 straight running plays to run out the clock.
Naperville Central 33, Glenbard North 14: The second-ranked Redhawks (8-0, 6-0) opened a 21-0 lead and never looked back in their DuPage Valley victory. Christian Pearson threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns while D.J. Johnson (18 carries, 157 yards) added touchdown runs of 47 and 69 yards. Nick Orsi (12 for 24, 269 yards) threw a pair of touchdown passes for Glenbard North (4-4, 3-3).
Lincoln-Way 54, Bloom 0: Rich Schutt returned a blocked punt 11 yards for a touchdown and rushed 5 yards for another as No. 3 Lincoln-Way (8-0, 6-0) clinched a tie for the SICA Blue title with its rout of Bloom (0-8, 0-6). Cory Paus (2 for 3, 72 yards) threw two touchdown passes for the Knights.
Palatine 40, Wheeling 0: No. 5 Palatine scored on its first four drives and QB Sergio Lund had 218 yards of total offense in the first half as the Pirates (8-0, 4-0 Mid-Suburban North) shut out Wheeling (2-6, 0-4) for their 25th straight regular-season victory.
Waubonsie Valley 21, Streamwood 16: Senior R.J. Luke ran his state-record pass-reception streak to 38 consecutive games as he scored one touchdown and added a two-point conversion against Streamwood (5-3, 3-3), which grabbed a 16-15 lead with 5:06 left in the third as Scott Brown hooked up with Corey Clyburn for an 80-yard TD strike. The pair combined for a two-point conversion seconds later. Waubonsie went ahead 21-16 with 11:14 left on a broken play. A scrambling Ben Kleinhans threw a 6-yard TD pass to Jared Wofford. A two-point conversion try failed.
The Upstate Eight victory for the No. 9 Warriors (7-1, 6-0) was overshadowed by the deaths of three Waubonsie Valley students who were killed in an auto accident early Friday morning.
Homewood-Flossmoor 26, Andrew 14: The Vikings (6-2, 5-1) took a 12-0 halftime lead and hung on to upset No. 11 Andrew (6-2, 5-1) in the SICA Gray. Trey Harrington (13 for 21, 154 yards, TD) and Charles Wagner (six carries, 97 yards) led the way for H-F.
Mt. Carmel 28, Marist 6: Jim Smith had two touchdown runs as Mt. Carmel (7-1, 4-1) clinched the Catholic Metro Blue title and earned its 12th straight playoff appearance. Smith’s runs covered 1 and 5 yards.
Marian Catholic 10, Loyola 9: Tom Bijak (15 carries, 69 yards) scored on a 3-yard run and Aaron Dobrovits blocked an extra point in the third quarter as Marian (6-2, 4-1 Catholic Metro Blue) won the defensive battle over No. 16 Loyola (6-2, 3-2).
Lockport 42, Joliet 20: Luke Sievers’ 69-yard touchdown pass to Brian Herich opened the scoring for the 16th-ranked Porters (7-1, 5-1) in their SICA Blue victory over Joliet (2-6, 2-4). Herich also scored on a 21-yard reverse and Craig Duppong (17 carries, 147 yards) added two touchdowns for Lockport.
Bishop McNamara 37, Carmel 7: Johnny Short rushed for 133 yards and four TDs to the lead the 18th-ranked Fightin’ Irish (7-1, 5-1) past Carmel (5-3, 4-2) in the Catholic Metro Green. Carmel led 7-6 at the half, but Bishop Mac answered with four second-half touchdowns.
York 27, Hinsdale Central 7: No. 19 York (7-1, 6-0) clinched the West Suburban Silver title as Chris Anderson ran for three touchdowns. Vince Lucca also hit Matt Hull for a 57-yard touchdown pass. York has won its last seven games after dropping its opener to Maine South.
Dunbar 44, Chicago Vocational 16: No. 20 Dunbar scored on all five of its first-half possessions and Rausell Harvey scored three touchdowns as the Mightymen (6-2, 5-0) rolled past CVS (2-6, 1-4) in the Public Illini South. Harvey rushed for 148 yards and touchdowns of 18 and 43 yards and caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Derek Boneparte.
