A local planning council renamed itself Wednesday to de-emphasize the group’s relationship to a proposed tollway link through the southwest suburbs.
Members voted to change the name of the I-355 South Suburban Tollway Corridor Planning Council to the Lincoln-Way Corridor Planning Commission. The group draws membership from Frankfort, Mokena, Manhattan, New Lenox, Will County and area school, park and fire protection districts.
The commission’s mission is to coordinate regional land use plans and to discuss the proposed Interstate Highway 355 corridor, said Frankfort Mayor Ray Rossi, commission chairman.
