Village officials in New Lenox apparently are just as weary as other motorists after a spring and summer of the road construction on U.S. Highway 30.
The contractor has requested a time extension from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Village Engineer Ron Franciskovich said.
A resolution approved Tuesday by trustees opposes granting the contractor, P.T. Ferro Construction Co., an extension that would allow the roadway to be left in its present state over the winter and calls for the pavement to be completed before the cold weather hits.
Weather conditions during the construction period have been favorable and offer no excuse for delay, according to the resolution. It also states that the current roadway entrances and exits on the south sides of the road pose a safety hazard to drivers and an economic hazard to businesses.
“All of us in New Lenox … want to see this done ASAP,” Village Administrator Russ Loebe said.
The resolution will be forwarded to all the agencies connected with the project, Loebe said.
