Bucking state trends, District 64’s 3rd graders and 8th graders posted impressive gains in reading on the most recent IGAP tests.
At the 3rd grade, where state reading averages fell off three points, District 64 jumped 24 points over 1996, from 293 to 317 on a 500-point scale. Similarly, the district’s 8th graders recorded a 15-point gain in reading, rising from 271 in 1996 to 286 this year. Statewide, 8th graders dropped 11 points in reading.
Still, the district continued a four-year slide in 6th grade.
