Some of Mokena’s large-scale snow-removal jobs will be contracted out this winter.
The Village Board this week approved a contract with Mid-America Tree and Landscape to plow the Hickory Creek, Front Street, McGovney Street and Village Hall commuter parking lots.
The company’s fees will depend on the amount of snowfall, ranging from $2,010 for 2 inches or less, to $4,110 for more than 8 inches.
The contract runs for two years but can be canceled after the first year.
The terms of the contract call for plowing to be completed by 4 a.m., so early commuters can begin parking.
Public Works Director Craig Heim said using a private firm for the snowplowing will cut down employee overtime.
