Elmhurst officials said Monday night that they will not recommend a plan that would open rock concerts at a local club to the under-21 set.
Members of the City Council’s Public Affairs and Safety Committee said they will send a report to the full council this week that Funseekers, a comedy club at 684 W. North Ave., should not open its club at least once a month on Sundays to teenagers for live concerts.
Offered in conjunction with the Elmhurst Family YMCA, the concerts would feature performances by three local rock bands and be monitored by three adult YMCA staff members, 30 to 40 teen volunteers and a paid security guard if necessary, officials said.
The YMCA’s policy against profanity, fighting, smoking, drugs, alcohol and gangs would be applied at the concerts, and participants would not be allowed to return to the club after leaving that night, said YMCA officials.
Officials said security, crowd control and traffic problems remained a concern. The full City Council is expected to vote on the proposal on Monday.
