Voters will be asked in a March 17 referendum question to approve $60 million in building bonds to finance the expansion of Lincoln-Way High School’s East Campus in Frankfort and Central Campus in New Lenox into two separate four-year high schools.

The bond proceeds would finance additional classrooms and a swimming pool at both schools and a new auditorium on the Central Campus, as well as separate athletic fields for both schools.

The school board voted last week to expand school district facilities by converting the freshman-sophomore Frankfort campus and the junior-senior New Lenox campus into two schools to house an enrollment that is expected to exceed the two schools’ combined capacity of 5,000 students by 2001.

Assistant Supt. Joseph Davis said forecasting a conservative 2 percent growth rate would mean 5,000 students in 2001, while a 4 percent growth rate would bring in 5,412 students.
