Argo may be out of the playoff race, but Friday night’s 32-16 victory over No. 13 Rich East bodes well for the future.

Argo coach Jim Innis hopes the SICA Orange victory in Summit will teach his younger players a valuable lesson.

“We embarrassed ourselves the last three weeks,” said Innis, whose team had lost to Oak Forest, Oak Lawn and Thornton Fractional South before downing Rich East. “I think it is a lesson. We learned we have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. You never know.”

Argo (3-4, 1-4), which led 20-8 at the half, scored on a 54-yard fumble recovery by Chuckie Davis and touchdown runs by John McAuliffe and Greg Lathan.

Trey Van Allen then hooked up with Marcus Mister from 43 yards out on the Argonauts’ first possession of the second half to make the score 26-8.

“We just wanted to prove that we can play,” Innis said. “Tonight we played to win.”

The loss was the first of the year for Rich East (6-1, 4-1).

Providence 49, De La Salle 14: After being tied 14-14 at intermission, top-ranked Providence (7-0, 4-0) scored on its first two plays of the second half en route to a 35-point barrage and rolled to its 49th straight victory. David Popp led the way for the Celtics, catching a 65-yard touchdown pass from Adam O’Reel to open the third quarter, then scoring on an 85-yard run. O’Reel then hooked up with Popp again at the outset of the fourth quarter from 50 yards to make it 35-14. Popp finished with five catches for 146 yards and the two TDs and rushed for 160 yards and one touchdown. O’Reel was 7 of 14 for 169 yards and four TDs.

De La Salle (1-6, 0-4) was led by Ray Boyd, who rushed for 121 yards, including a 4-yard TD run that gave the Meteors a 7-0 lead.

Naperville Central 40, Wheaton North 8: Second-ranked Naperville (7-0, 5-0), which clinched a playoff berth, used an 8-yard TD run by Joe Chirumbolo in the first quarter and a 31-yard interception return for a TD by Nate Davis in the second to go up 14-0 at the half in the DuPage Valley. The Redhawks then scored 20 points in the third behind Chirumbolo and Christian Pearson. Pearson threw a 7-yard TD pass to Chirumbolo and a 93-yard TD pass to Nate Tolbert. Chirumbolo ran back a fumble recovery 47 yards for a TD. Brad McCammack added a fourth-quarter TD on a 65-yard run. Pearson completed four of 13 passes for 142 yards and was intercepted once.

Naperville North 24, Glenbard North 6: Chris Brown, who rushed for 200 yards, scored on runs of 1, 41 and 43 yards to lead No. 10 Naperville North (6-1, 5-0) past Glenbard North (4-3, 3-2) in the DuPage Valley. The Huskies didn’t score until the 28-second mark of the second quarter–when Brown dove in from a yard out–and needed six fourth-down conversions and a Glenbard North pass-interference penalty on fourth and 10 at the Panthers’ 32-yard line to keep the drive alive.

Naperville North opened it up in the second half on Brown’s ninth and 10th touchdown runs in the last three games.

Andrew 42, Bradley-Bourbonnais 20: Jerrod Howard completed just six passes, but five of them went for touchdowns as No. 11 Andrew (6-1, 5-0) rolled in the SICA Gray. Howard, who also ran for a 1-yard touchdown, finished with 226 passing yards–a hefty 37.7-yards-per-completion average.
