To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of moving pictures last year, the Los Angeles Museum of temporary Art organized the first-ever exhibition to explore the complex relationship between film and the other visual arts. Called “Hall of Mirrors: Art and Film Since 1945,” the show will open Saturday at the Museum of temporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave. Works by more than 60 filmmakers, painters, photographers and sculptors are included; one of the featured examples of artistic intermingling is the collaboration between Alfred Hitchcock and surrealist Salvador Dali on the film Spellbound (above). The MCA will also offer an extensive screening and lecture program as part of the show; all in all, Hall of Mirrors should be one of the year’s best offerings on the museum circuit.
