Two former North Chicago High School football players were indicted Wednesday for their alleged role in a home invasion last June that led to a shootout with police.

Christopher Brackens and Dominique McCarthy, both 18 and of North Chicago, were indicted on 22 counts each of attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, armed violence, armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm, Lake County State’s Atty. Steve Scheller said.

Authorities said that on the night of June 5, Brackens, McCarthy and two others–Geoffrey Mitchell, 20, and Rahman Mitchell, 18–broke down the back door of a home at 1035 McAlister Ave. in North Chicago and assaulted and robbed several of the home’s residents.

After a pre-teen girl in the home was able to call police, the four assailants exchanged gunfire with officers and fled, Scheller said.

Brackens and McCarthy, players on the football team at North Chicago High School prior to their arrest last month, were each being held at Lake County Jail on $500,000 bond and will be arraigned Friday.
