This pretty much sums up the transience of baseball rosters in the ’90s: In the starting lineups for Tuesday night’s NLCS Game 1, the Florida Marlins had more players who started in the 1991 Braves-Pirates playoff series than the Braves did. One. Bobby Bonilla, Florida’s starting third baseman, was the Pirates’ left fielder in the ’91 NLCS. Meanwhile, the Braves’ lineup Tuesday included no one who started in the ’91 series that began Atlanta’s unprecedented run of six straight NLCS appearances. In all, the Braves have only six players who were on their ’91 postseason roster: Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Mark Wohlers, Rafael Belliard, Jeff Blauser and one more who might not come so easily to mind: Tommy Gregg, who since has played for Richmond, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Mexico City, Charlotte, Florida and Richmond again.
