Robert Joyce Sr. acknowledges a Steger coach was out of line during a summertime altercation with a coach from Crete.
But Joyce, who has resigned as chairman of the village’s recreation board, Tuesday described as “ridiculous” the Village Board’s decision to bar “for life” the offending recreation department volunteer.
“Somebody gets convicted of manslaughter and I think they get off after eight years, don’t they?” Joyce said.
Joyce’s comments followed the Village Board’s acceptance Monday of his resignation from the village recreation board, along with the resignation of recreation board member Tim Hannon.
Joyce and Hannon tendered their resignations after village trustees, meeting in closed sessions, overruled the recreation board’s one-year suspension and issued the lifetime suspension.
