The possibility of a Park District takeover of New Lenox Elementary School District 122’s Cherry Hill School has been turned over to the school district’s Site Committee for discussion.

In a letter to the school district, park commissioners said they are interested in using the building, which is slated for demolition at the end of the school year, if it could be done without disrupting construction plans for a new building.

The school board decided to demolish Cherry Hill School at 2800 Washington St. and build a new kindergarten center for the district after calculating renovation and drainage costs.

School Board President Marge Persico said the school district’s main concern is to satisfy drainage requirements without having to build a deep detention pond.
