A 52-year-old Lake County woman was killed early Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash in Grayslake.
The Lake County coroner’s office identified the woman as Wilma Chandler of Round Lake Beach. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:31 a.m. of traumatic injuries.
Police said Chandler was traveling south on Allegheny Road about three-eighths of a mile south of Illinois Highway 120 about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when she lost control of her 1990 Chevrolet Lumina.
The Lumina left the road on the right shoulder, the vehicle rolled and the driver was thrown from the car, said Grayslake Police Sgt. Matt McCutcheon. She was wearing no seat belt, police said.
McCutcheon said it appeared the driver may have swerved to avoid an opossum in the roadway when she lost control of the car.
